Monday 23 October 2017

Although I will be away in the UK from Tuesday 6th November, until the end of November for professional training (in Osteopathy, the Still technique and a psychosynthesis retreat), there is plenty of time for your Osteopathy /  Acupuncture appointment.  There are still plenty of Osteopathy / Acupuncture appointments available, including evenings and weekends also.

I have to also admit, that one reason I go this time of year is to avoid severe Hay Fever and Asthma symptoms, which tend to creep up on me in November, here in Christchurch.  I can of course treat these, at least partially, in other people -  yet not so easy for myself.  One way, of course, is to remove myself from breathing the Spring pollens.

Kaori and Daniel will be here to look after the dogs, and answer the phone -  but to see all the available osteopathy and acupuncture appointments, best book online:

Sunday 1 October 2017

earlier opening (from 07.30am) for osteopathy and acupuncture here in Christchurch

Just to let everyone know that now it's possible to book your osteopathy and/or acupuncture appointment earlier, from 7.30am on weekdays.

This is great if this is the only time you have, before work, or before taking the children to school!
These earlier appointment times also work for children too!

Best to book your appointment in the usual way.  Please try to book online at:  www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

It's a good idea to book for your osteopathy or acupuncture treatment the day before, or even a few days before.

Of course, if you're really stuck, and can't book online, you can still phone on 03 980 2425.
And there are still often weekend and After Hours osteopathy and acupuncture appointments available.

But the early times (7.30am, 8.00am, 8.15am) might be very helpful if this is the only time you, or a family member, can get in for their osteopathy or acupuncture treatment.

Clinic Fully Open again for Osteopathy and Acupuncture, From Wednesday 20 September. Please book online: www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

Just to let everyone know that the clinic is fully open again for your Osteopathy and Acupuncture treatments, from this Wednesday 20 September.

I'm still away in Melbourne, having come here for a Pain-management in Clinical practice training course.  This has great benefit for patients (you guys, or some of you at least) living in pain, especially chronic pain, and even those wishing to make the fastest recovery time from injury.  So yes, pain education is all part of Osteopathic treatment and management (and even acupuncture to).

Optimal prevention and recovery from injury, are all part of osteopathic treatment and management.  I am currently working on some website updates about this.

Please feel free to ask me, during your osteopathic consultation and treatment.

Kaori and Daniel, are of course at home to look after the dogs.
If you need to book you osteopathy or acupuncture treatment urgently, Kaori may be able to book you in, but best NOT to phone and use the website to see the best times for you osteopathy or acupuncture appointment:

kind regards,
Mike

weekend opening update: clinic open some Sunday mornings for osteopathy and acupuncture. Best book online at www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

Due to popular demand, we are experimenting with clinic opening hours for Osteopathy and or Acupuncture treatments on Sunday mornings (not every Sunday, but most).

This can be convenient for people who don't live in central Christchurch, and have to drive in some distance as there are no osteopaths (or acupuncturists)  where you live.

Of course, it also helps, if you have an episode of acute back pain, or perhaps a sporting or skiing injury, and you don't want to be in pain, and have to phone around on Monday morning, trying to get in for your osteopathy (or acupuncture) appointment.

And yes, the clinic is also open for osteopathy and acupuncture most Saturday afternoons.  (I have to confess that I often go to my yoga class on Saturday mornings.)

I will be taking a few days off from (and including) Thursday 14th September to Wednesday 20th September, to do a professional osteopathy (actually the trainers are both physiotherapists) course in Pain -management.  Sadly, there will be no locum osteopath to cover for me on those few days  -  but Kaori and Daniel will be here, and you can still phone for an osteopath appointment for when I get back.  Although, as they may not be able to pick up the phone at all times -  I would highly recommend that you book online, for your osteopath (or acupuncture) appointment -  using the Ezybook real-time internet diary.  It's very easy (much easier than phoning) as you can see all the available osteopathy (and acupuncture) appointments across the whole week.

Best book online at www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

And, yes, there are still After-Hours appointments available.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy the Skiing, while the snow lasts.  Play safe.
Spring is just around the corner.

Good Health,
Mike

Updated new Introduction to Osteopathy page

For an updated Introduction to Osteopathy page.  Discusses several conditions -  that may have a structural or anatomical component, e.g. muscle tension or joint restriction and/or misalignment  -  and as such may be treated with Osteopathy: e.g. headaches, back pain, neck and shoulder pain, and jaw pain (including Temporomandibular joint, TMJ syndrome.

This page also mentions that Osteopathy can be used to treat pain from trauma or injury, as well as chronic pain, and pain from occupational stress and repetitive strain.  For more about this please see: http://www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz/osteopathy/osteopathy.html

History of Osteopathy (page update)

On my recently updated History of Osteopathy page, I discuss the origins of Osteopathy and manual medicine, and the development of Osteopathy, beginning with its founder Andrew Taylor Still (1828 - 1917) and the origin of Osteopathy in America.

However, it was the arrival of John Martin Littlejohn, who studied with Still, and was then made Dean of the American School of Osteopathy, where he taught physiology. (Andrew Still's emphasis was more on anatomy) that was perhaps the most significant event in the history of Osteopathy, after the original work of Andrew Still.  Later, in 1913 Littlejohn returned to the UK, where he founded the British School of Osteopathy.  (Littlejohn was Dean of the BSO, where he taught Osteopathy continuously from 1915-1939).

On my History of Osteopathy page I then discuss how the curriculum of the British School of Osteopathy later changed, and how later, there developed modern variations of Osteopathy (such as Cranial Osteopathy and Visceral Osteopathy).

For more on this, you might like to read the History of Osteopathy page:

Osteopathy History and Osteopathy Principles - new pages soon. Also revisions to several acupuncture pages soon

Osteopathy Introduction, Osteopathy History and Osteopathy Principles -  new pages soon.

Just to let everyone know that I am working on new web pages for the Osteopathy Introduction and Osteopathy History page, and the Osteopathy Principles page.  These have been extensively revised and enlarged (with photos) and will be up on the www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture website in the next few weeks.

There are also revisions to several Acupuncture pages: The Acupuncture Introduction page,
What Acupuncture treats, and The Scientific Basis of Acupuncture pages.  These pages still exist in their current (short) forms (What Acupuncture treats, Scientific basis of Acupuncture and the Acupuncture Introduction page) but the newer pages will be much larger, with more text and information.  I will post another update when these page revisions have been completed.

Meanwhile, you can still book an appointment from the site in the normal way (and all the pages are working)

www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

And, of course, if you need to, you can still phone also:  03 980 2425 and 021 043 6282

Christchurch Osteopathy Acupuncture website review. There will be some changes to some Osteopathy and Acupuncture pages in the next few weeks.

For the Christchurch Osteopathy Acupuncture website, there will be some changes to certain pages of the website in the next few weeks.  The website seems to be working well.  You may have recently noticed a few broken links, or pages that did not load -  but at the moment there don't appear to be any problems.

There will be a few minor changes to the content of a few pages, both for the Osteopathy and the Acupuncture chapters.  These changes are mainly to do with the conditions that Osteopathy and Acupuncture treats, and the Evidence base to certain conditions that Osteopathy and Acupuncture have been used for.  There is, of course, good Evidence-base, particularly for treating painful conditions, particularly using Acupuncture.  But one or two pages will shortly be updated.

So please bear with me if you notice any problems.  All seems good, but any glitches will be resolved in the next few weeks.  From looking at the site today, all the Osteopathy and Acupuncture pages seemed to be loading correctly.  I have always tried to keep the content of all the Osteopathy and Acupuncture pages as accurate, helpful and informative as possible.  However, I may need to make one or two minor changes.

Of course the booking system continues to work perfectly, and it is easy to book (or change) an online appointment (for Osteopathy or Acupuncture, or both) by visiting www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz

Of course, you can still phone (on either 03 980 2425,  or 021 043 6282) and I am available to answer any questions you may have about your own condition, and whether osteopathy (or acupuncture) might be able to help.

Tuesday 10 January 2017

still some appointments left for Osteopathy and/or Acupuncture, this week. Then Monday 23rd January onwards

There are still some appointments left for Osteopathy and/ or Acupuncture today (11/01) Wednesday, Thursday (12/01) and Friday (13/01) before I go on retreat on Saturday.  Although Kaori and Daniel will be here to look after the dogs, I'll be away for a whole week.  Yes, I'm afraid I'm the same as everyone else and need a break sometimes!  And lots of yoga, qigong and meditation can be wonderfully restorative to recharge my batteries, as it were - so I can be at my best for giving osteopathy and acupuncture treatments (healing for the healer).

So, I know a lot of you are still away enjoying your holidays - and those of you back in the city back at work, might, hopefully find that it still a slow time and quieter with many people in holiday mode. But, there are of course, some people, who are working long hours in this, the silly season.

So if you need any restorative treatment to keep you going, or have had any unfortunate excessive excitement or mishaps on your holidays - and may feel the need for osteopathy or acupuncture treatment, there are still a few appointments left.

However, I'm not going to be back until Monday 23/01  (although, probably most of the other osteopath and acupuncture clinics are fully  open next week  - so I guess no worries).

If you need to book in, please book in the the usual way on www.christchurch-osteopathy-acupuncture.co.nz (and check out the new website).  And yes, you'll notice a whole week blocked out from 14-22nd, so don't try phoning on that week, as I won't have a phone signal.  Kaori might be able to book your osteopathy (or acupuncture) appointment from Monday 23rd onward, but best book online, and see all the available osteopath appointments.

Enjoy the summer.
play happy.
stay safe.

Happy (long) holidays,
Mike
